Marine engineer from LNG carriers and FSRUs, now working ashore on safety, sustainability and fleet performance — turning operational data and environmental regulation into practical efficiency gains.
Marine engineering at sea, fleet operations ashore — now focused on safety, decarbonization and data.
I went to sea as a marine engineer in 2013 and sailed on LNG carriers and FSRUs with Exmar Shipmanagement and Excelerate Technical Management. My Marine Engineer employment period is recorded through September 2023, including a project assignment ashore in 2017–2018. The work was hands-on: propulsion systems, steam turbines, generators, boilers, compressors, pumps and rotating machinery, engine-room and control-room operations, cargo operations and bunkering, preventive and condition-based maintenance, technical reporting — all within multicultural shipboard teams.
Ashore, the path led through fleet operations into HSEQ and sustainability: Consultant on the Belgian maritime innovation ecosystem with Maritime Campus Antwerp (2023), Fleet Controller with Eurostar in Brussels (2024), and now Safety & Sustainability Superintendent with AML / Stena Line in Tangier. Today my focus is safety, sustainability, climate change and environmental compliance — ESG, decarbonization, energy efficiency and fleet performance — with a growing interest in maritime digitalization and AI-supported, data-driven decision making.
Two master's degrees support the move — Marine Engineering (2022) and Maritime and Air Transport Management at Antwerp Management School / University of Antwerp (2023), both with Great Distinction. I am motivated by practical improvement: safer ships, cleaner fleets, and numbers that help crews and shore teams make better decisions. Always glad to exchange ideas with people across the industry.
Sea-going engineering first, shore-based impact now. Scope follows the resume — no quantified claims beyond it.
AML / Stena Line — Tangier
Eurostar — Brussels
Maritime Campus Antwerp — Antwerp
Exmar Shipmanagement — Antwerp
Excelerate Technical Management / Exmar Shipmanagement — LNG / FSRU
Engineering depth plus transport management breadth — both master's degrees awarded with Great Distinction.

Ten years of machinery, fuel and compliance data — now building the tools to analyse it better. An honest label: Python, data and AI are actively developing capabilities, not software-engineering roles.
Fuel and emissions sheets, HSEQ reports, Teams and SharePoint.
Voyage data, CII tracking and audit packs for verifiers. Power BI (basic).
Programming fundamentals applied to fuel and emissions questions. Learning in public on GitHub.
Cleaning report-style data and running consumption statistics.
Version control for learning code. Profile documents the journey.
AI-assisted analysis and Climate Change AI tutorials — ML carbon tracking, coastal monitoring, weather and energy topics.
Why this matters at sea and ashore: noon reports, MRV/DCS datasets, CII curves and SEEMP measures are data problems as much as engineering ones. The goal is practical — cleaner inputs, clearer analysis, better ship-shore decisions.
Selected work connecting maritime operations, sustainability, engineering, data and emerging digital technologies.
SEEMP implementation, CII monitoring and corrective planning with ship and shore teams — fuel-consumption reduction and operational measures developed with onboard, technical, commercial and financial colleagues.
Hull and propeller condition, anti-fouling considerations and resistance reduction as part of the efficiency picture, alongside voyage and trim optimisation.
One reporting flow across IMO DCS, EU MRV, EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime — from data intake to verifier pack — plus Union Registry / RENADE account duties, EUA transactions and allowance surrendering.
Master's research on decarbonization pathways and alternative fuels, followed ashore through regulatory and operational reading — LNG today, biofuels, methanol and energy-saving technologies under evaluation.
Master's thesis plus Maritime Campus Antwerp consulting: stakeholder analysis of ports, shipping companies, research institutions and government bodies, with recommendations to grow innovation.
Techno-economic and regulatory assessment of alternative fuels and emission-reduction technologies for shipping.
Evaluation of fuel-cell technology applications for sustainable maritime propulsion systems.
Measuring a machine-learning model's carbon footprint and practising strategies to shrink training energy. Climate Change AI tutorial fork.
Satellite remote sensing plus machine learning for coastal water quality and ecosystem change. Closest to the maritime domain.
Notebook series on weather ensembles (PiggyCast), flood monitoring, optimal power flow and coal-plant monitoring — building Python, data and AI fundamentals.
Applying the same Python/Pandas toolkit to noon-report style data and MRV-style inputs for consumption, CII and allowance estimates. Code lands on GitHub as each build matures.
The profile is an ongoing learning portfolio combining maritime expertise with sustainability, decarbonization, energy efficiency, data-driven decision making, digital transformation, Python and AI. Tutorials and forks are labelled as such — not client work.
Python programming · data analysis · AI fundamentals · climate and AI · sustainability and environmental applications · machine learning · coastal and environmental monitoring.
Established professional areas first; actively developing areas labelled honestly.
Speed, trim, hull and propeller condition tied to measured results.
SEEMP measures, retrofits and operations that pay back in fuel.
CII, SEEMP and fleet-level plans that move ratings the right way.
Regulation and practice that shift fleets toward lower emissions.
LNG from sea service; biofuels, methanol and green options under study.
ISM/ISPS/MLC systems, audits, drills and safety leadership.
EU ETS, MRV, IMO DCS and FuelEU reporting done right, on time.
From noon-report intake to verifier-ready emission packs.
Connecting ship data to shore-side sustainability disclosure.
How shipping fits the energy transition — without slogans.
From noon reports toward cleaner, more live data pipelines.
Letting voyage and fuel data guide operational choices.
Assistants for analysis and drafting; humans keep the decisions.
Small, useful tools first — adopted by crews, not imposed on them.
Not activism in general — the ship-specific side of the energy transition, where an engine-room background is an advantage.
Climate regulation is now daily fleet work: EU ETS allowance surrendering, FuelEU GHG-intensity accounting, MRV/DCS reporting, CII ratings and SEEMP actions. I handle these from inside a shipping company, which keeps the perspective operational — what a crew can actually do, what a retrofit really saves, what a verifier will actually accept.
ESG and GHG accounting extend the same logic ashore: turning fuel and voyage data into credible sustainability reporting. My GitHub learning — ML carbon tracking, coastal monitoring, energy-system notebooks — supports that direction without pretending to be client work.
Interested in how shipping decarbonizes in practice — fuels, efficiency and data — rather than generic climate commentary.
Open to conversations about maritime safety, sustainability, fleet performance, energy efficiency, decarbonization, environmental compliance, maritime technology and international opportunities. I reply within two working days.
